Walkway Over the Hudson | Vanderbilt Mansion Loop | Poet's Walk
Three visits to must see and historic areas along the Hudson River from Poughkeepsie to Red Hook, NY. Time permitting and depending on the interest of the group we can make a final stop for a drink and/or bite to eat in the charming town of Rhinebeck, NY.
Itinerary for the Day
1st Visit: Walkway Over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie, NY
Walk across the "Walkway Over the Hudson" Bridge that connects east and west sides of the Hudson River. Enjoy breathtaking views on our 3 mile journey from end to end.
2nd Visit: Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park, NY
Explore the grounds of at Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site. Our 3 mile walk takes us across the property past the mansion to the rose garden. After walking through the gardens we head along the creek down to a trail through the forest. We exit the forest by the banks of the Hudson. This is a great spot to enjoy lunch if the group is hungry if not we'll continue and stop somewhere else! The last leg of the loop takes us up a paved hill and returns us back to the Mansion. Views along this walk are stunning. A must see favorite stop in the Hudson Valley.
3rd Visit: Poet's Walk in Red Hook, NY (Nearby Bard College)
Time permitting, our last visit will be to Poet's Walk. Here we will enjoy a two mile (can be easily shortened if needed) that takes us on a path through short grass fields and forest to the banks of the Hudson River on the North-East Side nearby the Kingston Rhinecliff Bridge.
